RStudio outage

    We are informing you about a change in the RStudio service. From April 2nd, the rstudio.hpc.ut.ee service is closed. This application ran on a virtual machine that was designed for testing proof-of-concept type tasks but was not suitable for working with large amounts of data. Therefore, we closed it.


    However, RStudio will remain accessible through ondemand.hpc.ut.ee, which is a significantly faster and more convenient way to use the service. The advantages of RStudio ondemand.hpc.ut.ee:

    • The application runs on the HPC cluster Rocket.

    • Each user's RStudio instance is isolated. There is no resource sharing.

    • Various versions of R are available.

    • Resource allocation according to need.

    • Monitoring option via Elastic (elk.hpc.ut.ee).

    On the 8th of February, Estonia and other Baltic countries will disconnect from the Russian electricity system and join the continental European frequency area on the 9th of February. We have been informed that Estonian residents will probably not notice the frequency band change. However, during this switchover, Estonia’s electricity supply will be more vulnerable than usual, and technical failures can never be completely ruled out.

    If necessary, the University of Tartu HPC Center is prepared for potential electrical blackouts by activating our generator and UPS. Depending on the duration of the outage, we may need to shut down some non-critical services to optimize energy consumption. The HPC cluster's compute nodes would be the first units to shut down. We will update you about the changes in our service here on the status page.
